Its That Time - Cold and Flu Prevention

The temperatures are dropping and the winds are blowing, everyone is coughing and sneezing! How do I stay healthy??

Keeping your immune system healthy during the colder months is a challenge but with some extra support you can!

Here are some foods to stay clear of when you are working to keep your immune system strong:

  1. Sugar - eating sweet things will spike your blood sugar and this in turn weakens your immune system, lowering white blood cells and reducing your ability to fight off bad germs.

  2. White bread, pasta, chips, crackers and white rice - they too spike the blood sugar levels and lessen your ability to fight off invaders.

  3. Caffeine - will affect sleep and mood, reducing your body's capability to maintain a strong immune response.

  4. Refined processed foods - they can cause inflammation, which will wear down the immune system.

  5. Alcohol - excessive drinking can lower the health of the gut lining and allow bad bacteria to enter the bloodstream. It also stresses out the system and causes inflammation.

Remember that stress greatly impacts the immune system. With high stress comes high levels of cortisol and with that comes a reduced immune function.

Here are some foods that help keep the immune system strong:

  1. Lots of fruits, especially berries and citrus

  2. Drink lots of water

  3. Eat lots of veggies, like broccoli, green leafy veggies and avocados

  4. Drink teas like ginger, green tea, throat coat and licorice

  5. Almonds, garlic and turmeric

Take supplements like Vit D, Viracid, Dhist, Vit C and Immune Defense Pak! Take high doses for the first few days that you feel something coming on and then reduce slowly as you feel better.
